The Promotional Score is a value assigned to the promotion based on its impact on the consumer. Deeper discount promotions have a greater impact and a greater score. This score is impacted both by the depth of cut and whether the promotion applies to a selection of menu items or all products.

So for example if a product is on a deep discount promotion for all items on their menu this is likely to have a much greater impact with more consumers buying from that restaurant than a "free item" promotion for example.

We created the Promo Score metric to enable you to easily visualise which brands are doing the most impactful promotions. In addition to applying a weighting to the promotion the score is impacted by the percentage of venues in an estate that is on the promotion. If all venues within a restaurant chain are doing deep discount promotions this will have a higher score.

Promo Score shown in the Promotions analysis

In the example above for Ask Italian the Promo score for the brand is shown at the top. When this is on a discount promotion this has a much higher weighting than when the free item promotion begins. The percentage value shown next to the promotion is the percentage of the Ask Italian estate which is on that promotion on that day.
