Setting up an alert on your competitors is a really useful way to keep updated on any market changes as soon as they happen.

Below we detail how to setup an alert on competitor activity.

Setting up a Competitor Venue Group

We would recommend starting by setting up a venue group of your competitors.

This can not only be used in the Alerts but in all the other analytics shown in Takealytics.

To set up a competitor venue group:

1) Click Groups

2) Add a New Group

3) Give your group a name for example 'Competitor Restaurants'

4) Choose Dynamic - this keeps updating the group even when new venues are launched with that name.

5) Type in the Include Keywords box the names of your competitor brands, pressing enter between each one.

6) Select the platforms to include e.g. Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats.

7) Click Save Group

Once you have created your Group you can now build your alert.

Building your Competitor Alert

1) Choose Email Alerts

2) Click Groups and choose your competitor restaurant group

3) The alert will load with the default metrics of Should Be Open and High Delivery Time.

4) Click Filters and choose the Metrics tab.

We would recommend you use the following metrics in your alert, however you can choose from any of the metrics shown.

5) Untick the Should Be Open and High Delivery Time metrics

6) Tick the New Listings tab - we would recommend changing this to 7 days threshold.

7) To see when they promote tick the Promotions tab

8) To see when their reviews change tick the Reviews tab - we would recommend setting this to 4 weeks and choosing 0.5 change - this will only highlight those venues which have seen bigger changes in reviews in the last month. You can also further change this to only show when venues have seen a decline in Reviews.

9) Now you have chosen your metrics go to the Schedule Tab. For this alert we would recommend you get a round up of competitor activity once a week so Enable the schedule and set delivery on a Monday at 9am or at any other time that suits you.

10) Finally give your alert a name and click Save.

Your Alert is now setup. You can also send this alert to colleagues by adding their details on the Schedule tab.
