One of the biggest influencers on a consumers choice of restaurant is the displayed delivery time.According to a recent survey, most takeaway users in Great Britain were willing to wait 31 to 45 minutes for food to be delivered. The results are shown below and broken down by frequent and infrequent users of takeaway services.
This clearly demonstrates how important it is to keep your delivery time below 45 minutes.
We recommend monitoring your delivery time every day to identify when there are peaks in demand. Why do those peaks exist? Is it caused by your restaurant or the delivery platform? Comparing metrics such as delivery time and collection time across platforms, can help you to understand whether it’s your restaurant or the platform that is underperforming.
This can then be plotted across your estate to identify which locations are facing high demand and by continuously monitoring this you can identify potential staffing capacity issues. This may not be when your restaurant is traditionally busy but when demands for delivery are much greater. During these times consider bringing more kitchen staff in to support the demand.
How to Run the Report
1) Select the Overview Analysis and type in the name of your estate. e.g. PizzaExpress
2) Click on Filters and scroll the Delivery Time slider to 45 minutes + and select venues which are Open. Consider also expanding the max delivery time up to 300+ minutes.
This will now show venues with delivery time greater than 45 minutes based on the latest data. If you have many venues you can click on the Delivery header to sort from high to low on time.
3) You can change the time for your analysis. We would suggest switching to a peak time. e.g. 7pm on a Friday night. You can do this by clicking on Filters and choosing the Date option at the top.
Tip: You can click onto the Venue Dashboard to then analyse the nearby delivery time for any location with a high delivery time. This helps to highlight if this is a Venue issue (kitchen capacity problem) or a Platform issue (limited rider supply or high traffic in the local area). Hover over the Issue Status tag for more information.
We would suggest running the report and exporting the data on a regular basis to identify locations which have limited kitchen capacity.
